Magnus Carlsen with 30-point lead on the new FIDE Rating List

Magnus Carlsen has climbed to 2835, his highest rating ever, and now leads the field by a full thirty points. In 2011 he played six tournaments with a classical time control, he won four and came third in two. His new rating is the second highest in history. Only Garry Kasparov, in 1999, has had a higher rating at 2851 in January 2000. When Kasparov retired from professional chess he was ranked No. 1 in the world for 21 years. That"s the age Magnus Carlsen is now! Two other players, Aronian and Kramnik, are also above 2800, while the World Champion Anand has dipped just one point below the magic mark for the first time since July 2010.
